Mango Jalapeno Barbecue Sauce

Fruity and sweet. Spicy and hot. Boring old barbecue it’s definitely not. This mango jalapeno barbecue sauce is perfect for marinating and grilling with this summer.

Holidays in my household are kind of a mixed bag, you never know what you’re going to be walking into. There are times when my husband likes to do things up with big grand gestures and then there are other times when we both are like, eh, you just order what you want and we’ll say it’s from each other. LOL.

Well this year I had the best mother’s day surprise. They started on Saturday afternoon when I got home from work to discover a totally clean house, a beautiful bouquet of rainbow roses on the table, and found my husband working on making dinner! Now since it was only Saturday, I hadn’t been expecting to find anything when I walked in, except for some kids completely absorbed in their video games. (Saturday is an epic video game day in our house a lot of times.) So this was a fabulous surprise!

For my mother’s day dinner, my husband made me grilled pork chops and baby red potatoes. Grilled pork chops because they are one of my most favorite grilled meats, though he is completely partial to barbecued chicken. And I can’t forget to mention he’d also gotten a jar of pickles for a side dish. Haha. He knew I was going to expect a green vegetable with my dinner, it just turns out our ideas about what pass for green vegetables don’t exactly match up 🙂 It was really sweet.

I love the ease and compatibility with pork chops. There’s hardly any fat to trim off them, they cook up so quick and tender, and the flavor combinations that work with pork chops are limitless. Fruity, spicy, tomato-based, so much goes well with pork chops. Lately my favorite combo on pork chops is mango and jalapeno. Sweet and spicy, oh so nicey.

My mango jalapeno barbecue sauce is one of those things that doesn’t truly fall into the range of homemade, just mostly homemade, but that’s just fine with me and I think it will be with you too. Packed with fresh flavors, but paired with the ease of store bought sauce. This sauce has a fresh fruity base of mango and sweet honey, followed up with the heat of the jalapeno. It’s perfect for marinating and grilling with, but also makes a good addition to sandwiches and makes a killer BBQ pizza sauce.

I'm sharing this with my brother -- he just got himself a new smoker/grill and uses it almost every weekend. He had me looking for recipes for him. Do you have any favorite meat rub recipes?
