Sharing is caring!

Creamy, cheesy, and a little bit spicy, this Cajun Sausage Alfredo covers all the bases.

Cajun Sausage Alfredo

Cajun Sausage Alfredo is a cheap weeknight dinner. It’s quick and easy to make. It only takes about 15 minutes, doesn’t take a ton of fancy ingredients, and it tastes amazing!

A skillet full of cajun sausage alfredo.

Finding that combination of cheap, easy, and delicious is hard to do. But this easy pasta dish hits all 3 criteria and that’s why it’s is in the regular rotation at my house.  Serve it up with a green salad and some garlic rolls or focaccia bread for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe:

  • pasta, like campanelle or penne
  • smoked sausage
  • onion
  • bell peppers
  • garlic
  • Heavy cream
  • Parmesan
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Cayenne pepper (optional)
Pasta, parmesan cheese, peppers, sausage, cream, onion, and cajun seasoning

Let’s talk substitutions real quick. This recipe calls for fresh veggies, but if you are looking to simplify even more, you can substitute 2.5 cups of  frozen onion and bell pepper blend to save more time.

Feel free to use your favorite type of sausage in this recipe as well. Andouille and chicken sausage make great substitutions for smoked sausage.

We love the “Slap Ya Mama” brand Cajun seasoning, but feel free to use whatever brand you have available.

Cajun Sausage Pasta

One place where I do not recommend making changes is with the heavy cream. Heavy cream thickens up to a rich and creamy alfredo sauce with very little effort or time. If you try to substitute half and half, or whole milk, you won’t get the same results. They will not reduce and thicken unless you add an extra thickener like flour or cornstarch. The beauty of this recipe is just how quick and easy it is. Keep it simple!

Could you tell me what adjustments I can make to take this to a friend who. Is getting out of the hospital today? I’m going to make it all, and then just have her re-heat it. Should I tell her to re-heat on the stove or in the oven? And do you think it will affect the outcome?

Hi Barb! Reheating alfredo can be a bit tricky, but only because the sauce can separate if you're not careful. The best thing to do is reheat this on the stove on low heat and add a splash of milk or cream as it starts to heat up which will help it to stay creamy, while stirring until it's heated through. Hope this helps.

This was a hit! I made a couple small adjustments due to what I had on hand (no bell pepper, so used steamed California blend veggies, and no parmesan so used Mozzarella) and it turned out absolutely amazing!

Oh good! Love it when people can make a few changes and have a recipe still turn out well for them! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Made this tonight. I prepped everything before my daughters pinao lesson (took about 10 minutes) I didn’t have any Cajun seasoning so I used old bay (not as spicy, which was fine by my family) I got home at 4:45pm and had everything cooked (including pull apart garlic bread) by 5:05pm. 20 minutes to cook, 10 minutes to prep. A true 30 minute meal and it was an absolute hit in my house! Full of yummy flavors and beautiful colors. Thanks for the great recipe.
